Ledger of Rain

HUG AI Lab · 2026

Every vertical streak is a rain event that chose this plate and kept choosing it. The result reads less like corrosion than like a ledger kept by weather.

There is a ghost of an engraving under the patina. Legibility was never the point; exposure was.

Horizontal 4:3 fine-art material study, close macro. Subject: a flat bronze plate on a building facade with a fully developed green-black patina, vertical run-off streaks of lighter verdigris crossing it where rain has repeatedly drained; faint ghost of a shallow engraved line, illegible. Camera: 4x5 large format, 150mm macro, Kodak Portra 160, fine grain, high micro-contrast. Light: low raking late light from the right picking out relief, no specular flare. Palette: verdigris green, oxidised near-black, warm bronze, pale grey-green streak highlights. Composition: frame entirely filled by the plate, streaks running vertically, one shallow diagonal crease. Mood: bureaucratic decay, a document written by weather. Hard exclusions: no people, no text, no readable letters, no numerals, no watermark, no HDR, no oversaturation, no glowing edges.
